Microneedling FAQs

What is Microneedling?

A minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that encourages collagen production by using tiny, sterilized needles to create small punctures in the surface of the skin, helping to smooth, firm and tone. The pinpricks from microneedling cause slight injury to the skin, and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue.

What are the benefits?

-          Rejuvenates and plumps the skin with minimal discomfort and downtime.

-          Improves the appearance of scars, including acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.

-          Minimizes enlarged pores.

-          Improves the appearance of hyperpigmentation, or dark spots.

-          Improves uneven skin tone.

-          Improves skin elasticity.

-          Reduces the appearance of stretch marks.

-          Improves hair growth in people with alopecia.

-          less expensive than laser therapy and may be more effective for some people as the heat from laser treatments involves heat, which can affect skin pigmentation.

-          People with darker skin tones may prefer microneedling to laser therapy as research on the safety and effectiveness of laser treatments on patients with darker skin tones is still lacking.

Who performs the procedure?

Microneedling is widely used for its effectiveness by a variety of practitioners. Here at Longevity Lounge this service is performed by a Naturopathic Doctor so that you know you are in safe hands and will get the best possible results.

What tool do you use and why?

We use the SkinPen® Precision tool which is the #1 microneedling device. It is clinically tested, proven and is the very first FDA-cleared microneedling device, trusted by leading dermatologists, aestheticians, and other leading skincare professionals.

How does it work?

The SkinPen® works in three stages:

1.    Inflammation

SkinPen® microneedles penetrate the skin’s surface, triggering a natural immune response to disinfect, remove debris, increase blood flow, and activate the creation of new tissue.

2.    Proliferation

The micro-channels or tiny holes created by SkinPen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

3.    Remodeling

New dermal tissues form, rich in collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin quality, visibly reducing facial acne scars and neck wrinkles, leaving skin more smooth, radiant, and younger looking with new, healthier skin continuing to grow, even months after treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Treatment plans vary from person to person and results vary based on the severity of the skin concern, its location, and the treatment plan used but mild improvement in post-acne scarring can be seen after just two microneedling sessions. 4-6 sessions are usually recommended overall, and the skin will continue to see increased collagen production for 3-6 months after treatment.
